OVERCAST MOONLESS STARLIGHT NIGHT VISION IN COLOR?
YES! The X27 provides usable color video streams in the most demanding of lighting conditions. The proprietary x27 imaging module package squeezes the last drop of light out of the darkest of nights. Tested down to overcast no moon nights, the x27 is shocking in its ability to produce color video from completely black environments. For the technically inclined we are talking 1E-5 or better. For the rest of us, that’s really, really dark. Like cant see your hand in front of your face dark.
X27 COLOR NIGHT VISION VS GEN 3 GREEN NIGHT VISION
The old champion of night vision is the image intensification tube. This aging technology utilizes high voltage power supplies to amplify available light and produce a real time image to the users eye. The latest Gen 3 thin film or filmless autogated tubes are the pinnacle of traditional night vision. There is very little room left for them to improve. While they are good at seeing in the dark, they have several insurmountable issues. Image intensified (I2) night vision is a dead end technology. There is no digitization of the data it is a direct view system where the image is presented to the user on the tube itself and “dead ends” at a single user. It is difficult to capture, transmit or share the data making it severely limited in its capabilities. Further, image intensifier night vision is a monochrome technology. Typically, they are green images although there is a white phosphor variant that produces a black and white image. Additionally, the technology eats itself alive. It is so sensitive to light that it is damaging itself every time you use it. So, it is limited to only night time operations.
